Hamana Showreel

Led by the outstanding percussionist, Vieux Bakayoko, Hamana has grown to be one of Britain’s leading traditional West African dance companies.

Our aim is to bring inspiring and entertaining music and dance to the widest possible audience.

Our core musicians and dancers are of both African and European origin and each performer brings their own individual flair to performances that have been described as ‘fresh and thoroughly entertaining!’

With each performance Hamana takes the audience on an exciting journey through the traditions and stories of West African society. Our audiences enjoy visual and musical flavours of the joyful dynamics of African music and are invited to actually become part of the musical celebration by singing, dancing or even playing an instrument.
